Beneath the High Peaks

Often before taking on a large canvas I test drive a particular scene on a smaller canvas. Once I finished the smaller painting I loved it but felt like the scene begged to be painted larger. The larger size  of this painting places the viewer right where I stood; near Animus Forks Ghost Town on the Alpine Loop in Colorado.

The grandeur of the mountains comes through and the stream makes you want to follow it down into the valley between those towering peaks.
